What’s a Good Rechargeable Battery Setup for Toys, Remotes, and Game Controllers?
Toys, remote controls, and game controllers may all use AA or AAA batteries, but they represent three very different power-use scenarios.
Toys: Higher-Load Devices Benefit From Stable Output
Many powered toys include motors, lights, speakers, or wireless connections. Their current demand during startup and operation is often much higher than that of a basic remote control.
If a toy requires four batteries at a time, keep two complete groups of four: one group in use and one group ready for replacement. That way, the toy does not have to stop simply because one set is charging.

Many AA/AAA devices were originally designed around 1.5 V disposable batteries, while NiMH rechargeable batteries typically have a 1.2 V nominal voltage. In many low-consumption devices, that difference may not matter much. In motorized devices or electronics that are sensitive to low-voltage thresholds, however, it can show up as slower motors, weaker sound, earlier low-battery warnings, or performance that does not match the original 1.5 V operating condition.
If the device manual allows rechargeable batteries and the device shows those symptoms with 1.2 V NiMH cells, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a stable 1.5 V output can be an option to consider.
